San Bernardino will begin offering free legal advice at its main library.
“Lawyers in the Library,” a partnership between the San Bernardino Public Library and the Inland Counties Legal Services, is schedule to start Sept. 9 at the Norman F. Feldheym Central Library, according to a city statement.
Sessions will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month and will run indefinitely. Feldheym Central Library is at 555 W. 6th St.
Attorneys will provide help with a range of legal matters, including consumer law, housing, public benefits, elder law, simple estate planning, and expungements. If necessary, attorneys will also refer patrons to outside sources for more detailed information.
Unlike criminal cases, civil cases do not provide automatic access to a lawyer.
Inland Counties Legal Services is a nonprofit that provides civil legal services to Riverside and San Bernardino County residents. It began its Lawyers in the Library program in Riverside County in 2021, according to the statement.
