Garvey to join Palm Springs Festival of Lights parade

Olivia Garvey, sports anchor with KMIR-Ch. 6 in Palm Springs, will serve as Community Grand Marshal in the 27th annual Palm Spring Festival of Lights Parade, scheduled to be held Dec. 7.

Garvey will join Mary Hart, former host of Entertainment Tonight, who will be Celebrity Grand Marshal, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The daughter of former Dodger great Steve Garvey, Olivia studied broadcasting at the University of Arizona, Olivia worked for the NFL Network before joining KMIR, the NBC affiliate in the Coachella Valley.

“Palm Springs is my home and I grew up loving the holidays and the Festival of Lights Parade,” Garvey said in the statement. “I am so excited and honored to be part of the celebration, and it’s a dream come true to join my idol Mary Hart in the festivities.”

The parade, scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m., will move north along Palm Canyon Drive and finish at Tamarisk Road.  It will be broadcast live on KMIR-Ch. 6 starting at 6 p.m.
