Global footwear company signs Mo Valley lease

An international footwear and clothing manufacturer has signed a 10-year lease on a warehouse-distribution facility in Moreno Valley.

Deckers Outdoor Corp. expects to move into the 800,000-square-foot building in July, said Art Barrett, spokesman for Sares-Regis Group in Irvine.

Sares-Regis is developing the project on Grove View Road near Perris Boulevard. The lease was signed in late December following several months of negotiations and announced Tuesday.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Deckers Outdoor will be the building’s only tenant, but it’s not known how many people will work there.

“It’s going to be a standard warehouse-distribution center, and those don’t usually require a lot of people,” Barrett said of the building, which was developed without a signed tenant.

Sares-Regis, one of the leading industrial developers and property managers in the western United States, is currently developing 2.2 million square feet of industrial space in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Collectively, those properties are expected to lease for approximately $37 million, according to a Sares-Regis statement.

Sares-Regis is developing another speculative 800,000-square-foot building near the Deckers Outdoor building, Barrett said.

In November, the Moreno Valley City Council agreed to offer Deckers Outdoor incentives on sales tax and utility rates if the company would agree to move its entire internet distribution operation to the city.

That project, which has not been made official, would reportedly employ 150 people. It would be Deckers Outdoor’s fulfillment center for North America.

Deckers Outdoor is based in Goleta, Ca. It manufactures and distributes shoes, clothing and accessories for regular and casual use, and its products are sold in more than 50 countries, according to the statement.
