Corona will receive a $14 million state grant that will help ease traffic on Interstate 15 within the city.
The money will pay for a toll-free deceleration lane north of the Ontario Avenue exit in Corona, which will reduce traffic and collisions at no extra cost to commuters, according to a statement on the city’s website.
“The safety and operational improvement approved by the California Transportation Commission … will improve traffic flow and reduce the risk of accidents in this critical corridor,” Councilman Wes Speake said in the statement. “This will make the quality of life better for both the citizens of Corona and every commuter trying to get home to their family.”
Speake and Assemblyman Bill Essayli, R-Corona, negotiated to secure the grant, which was announced Dec. 7 after it was approved by the state Transportation Commission. Construction will begin shortly after the contract is officially awarded, according to the statement.
I call BS. The city and CalTrans have tried to fix 15/91 congestion but made it just as bad. These freeways interchanges will be impacted by this new change idea north of Ontario Ave. Just another project to screw Corona traffic and screw Corona Residents.
