A pair of Inland agencies have received money from the federal government designed to help battle homelessness among veterans.
The U.S. Veterans Affairs will give $3 million to the United States Veterans Initiative, located at the former March Air Force Base in Moreno Valley, and $1.5 million to the Lighthouse Treatment Center, also in Moreno Valley, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
Both entities serve Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The agencies will help about 150 families in the two-county region this year, and another 75 families are expected to receive help next year, the report stated.
The grants are part of an increased effort to battle homelessness among veterans in 56 regions where the problem is particularly acute.
The money will dispersed during the next three years as part of the Supportive Services for Veterans Families Program. Those funds, along with similar grants announced in August, are designed to end homelessness among local veterans by the end of 2015, according to the report.
