Members of the United Food & Commercial Workers Union are voting this week on a contract.
The union reached a tentative agreement with Vons, Ralphs and Albertsons one week ago, and now an estimated 60,000 rank-and-file union members must approve or reject the agreement, according to published reports.
Terms of the agreement have not been disclosed. The union’s contract with the three major supermarket chains expired March 2. Union members agreed to keep working under the terms of the former agreement until a new pact was worked out.
San Bernardino-based Stater Bros has been conducting its own negotiations with the union, which represents grocery store workers in Southern California. Those talks are expected to resume Friday, according to the reports.
