Stater Bros. Executive Chairman Jack H. Brown recently received a letter from U.S. Navy Capt. M.S. Ruth, commander of the USS Boxer, thanking Brown for the 277 care packages Stater Bros. donated to that ship earlier this year.
Brown, himself a Naval veteran, was thrilled to receive the letter, said Nancy Negrette, executive director of Stater Bros. Charities.
The care packages were assembled May 21, Armed Forces Day, and were shipped to 1,000 local military personnel who are serving overseas. Those packages included donations of food, magazines, games, books and other items that were donated by Stater Bros. and several of its vendors, Negrette said.
