Daniel Hernandez has taken over as San Bernardino’s public works director.
Hernandez, who formerly had the same job in the City of Commerce, began his new position on May 16, according to a statement on the city’s website.
“Daniel Hernandez has a proven track record of both leading effective Public Works Departments and private sector experience getting things done efficiently and cost-effectively,” City Manager Robert Field said in the statement. “This is another win for San Bernardino.”
For the past six-year, Hernandez has been in charge of public works departments in Los Angeles County: three years in Huntington Park followed by three years in Commerce.
In both places, Hernandez was credited with having modernized those departments, putting in place productivity and performance measurement systems, cost controls, work order, process systems, and customer care programs.
In San Bernardino, Hernandez is in charge of capital projects, fleet, environmental compliance, traffic, and maintenance, according to the statement.
