Stater Bros. has begun its annual holiday food drive.
The supermarket chain’s “Harvesting Hope in Our Community” campaign is designed to help people in need and raise awareness about hunger, according to a company statement.
The program, which is underway at all 168 Stater Bros. stores in November and December, includes food donation barrels and “Bag of Hope” donation cards that may be purchased at every check stand.
Those cards will pay for fresh and healthy food to be delivered to local food banks. A $5 donation will secure $12 worth of food, a $20 donation $60 worth of food, according to the statement.
Stater Bros. Charities will also donate $500,000 to food banks and feeding programs in the six counties served by Stater Bros., funds that will be used primarily to help low-income seniors, veterans, families and children in need.
Those donations were collected at via coin canisters at check stands.
Finally, the Salvation Army “Red Kettles” will be in front of all Stater Bros. stores from Nov. 16 through Dec. 24, and Stater Bros. plans to host a one-day food donation/collection Nov. 24 with KTLA-TV at stores in Chino, Placentia and Santa Clarita.
