Home Chef, one of the largest deliverers of meal kits in the United States, will enlarge its San Bernardino County operation.
The Chicago-based company will move its west coast production facility to a 200,000-square-foot facility at 1445 S. Tippecanoe Ave., nearly tripling the size of its local operations, according to a statement.
Home Chef, which plans to expand its new facility, has been operating in San Bernardino since 2015. The move will keep an estimated 300 jobs in San Bernardino.
“Our secret sauce has always been our customer-first approach,” said Pat Vihtelic, Home Chef’s founder and chief executive officer, in the statement. “By keeping our West Coast facility in San Bernardino, we will be able to continue to provide the best possible cooking experience.”
The San Bernardino County Economic Development Agency helped arrange meetings between Home Chef and its partners, including the city of San Bernardino, GO-Biz and the San Bernardino County Workforce Development Agency, to make sure the company took advantage of the incentives available to it.
A meal kit is a subscription food service in which a company sends customers pre-portioned – and sometimes partially-prepared – food ingredients and recipes that are used to prepare home-cooked meals.
