Temecula Valley Hospital has received a $1 million grant it will use to increase its mental health treatment programs.
The funding is from the city of Temecula, which last year agreed to donate that amount to the hospital from its community reinvestment grant program, according to a statement on the hospital’s website.
Temecula established that program to provide grants to any entity that provides behavioral health and social services to people who live or work in Temecula. Hospital officials will use the money to assist veterans, active-duty military, first responders, young people, and homeless individuals.
Riverside County has a suicide rate of nearly 12 per 100,000 residents, said Darlene Wetton, the hospital’s chief executive officer, citing data from the Riverside University Health System-Public Health.
“There is a significant shortage of available services to support the behavioral health needs of the community’s at-risk populations,” Wetton said in the statement.
