The Pomona Planning Commission this week unanimously approved a 105-room hotel that will be developed on the west end of the city.
Land Developer Associates will build the six-story Hampton Inn and Suites on Gillette Road near Fairplex Drive, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.
The project, to be built on two acres, will have 40 underground parking stalls and more than 80 surface spaces. It will include an outdoor pool, fitness room and business center, and is expected to generate about $6 million in transient occupancy tax during the next 10 years, the report stated.
Despite its proximity, the new hotel is not expected to compete with the Sheraton Fairplex Pomona.
Hampton Inn & Suites is part of the Hilton Worldwide chain of hotels.
Construction is expected to start in five to six months and take about a year and a half to complete, according to the report.
