The Inland Empire posted a six percent unemployment rate in August, essentially unchanged from the previous month but above the 5.3 percent predicted one year ago.
Those numbers are not adjusted for seasonal factors that typically impact the employment market, according to the state Employment Development Department.
California’s unadjusted jobless rate August was 5.9 percent, while nationwide that number was 4.4 percent. When adjusted for seasonal factors, those numbers were 5.3 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively.
Employers in Riverside and San Bernardino added 7,200 non-agricultural jobs between July and August, the EDD reported.
Between July and August, total non-farm employment in the two-county region went from 1,691,900 to 1,699,100, an increase of 7,200 jobs. Agricultural employment dropped by 2,500 jobs during that time.
Government (5,900) enjoyed the largest month-over-month increase, followed by private education/heath services (2,200 jobs) and trade, transportation, and utilities increased, which added 1,100 jobs.
“Other services” declined the most among Inland job sectors between July and August, losing 700 jobs, while construction lost 600 jobs in that time, the EDD reported.
