Business growth in the Inland Empire has outpaced new business growth in the state, according to data released this week.
The number of businesses in Riverside and San Bernardino counties grew by 11 percent between 2011 and 2016, the UC Riverside School of Business Center for Economic Forecasting and Development reported.
During the same period – the most recent numbers available – California added businesses at a rate of 8.6 percent.
Seven thousand one hundred and eighty two businesses were added in Riverside and San Bernardino counties during that time, more than enough to make up for the approximately 2,000 businesses that were lost from 2011 to 2016 because of the Great Recession.
Healthcare, food and hotel services, construction and transportation-warehousing have led the Inland Empire’s recent business growth. Healthcare added 914 businesses during that time, the largest gain of any of the four sectors.
