IE cable network to go international

The Inland Empire’s only independent cable television network will soon be seen north of the border.

MATV, owned and operated by Corona-based Lucas Oil Products, has partnered with Anthem Media Group to create MATV Canada, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.

Lucas Oil announced the new arrangement Wednesday.

Anthem Media Group is a production and broadcast company with offices in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto. Several of its specialty channels broadcast auto racing, mixed martial arts and fantasy reports, the report stated.

The new venture is expected to launch in August or September.

MATV was started in 2002 by Showtime Networks as Maverick TV. Ten years later, it was relaunched by Lucas Oil Products. Today it broadcasts a steady diet of motor sports, some mixed martial arts and an occasional action movie.

MATV Canada will be able to use all of MATV’s content while producing its own racing programs, according to the report.
