The Inland Empire posted a 5.9 percent unemployment rate in August, up from a revised 5.7 percent in July, according to a report.
Broken down, the jobless rate was 6.2 percent in Riverside County, and 5.7 percent in San Bernardino County, the state Employment Development Department reported Sept. 18.
Month over month, total non-farm employment in the Inland region rose from 1,706,400 to 1,712,200, an increase of 5,800 jobs.
Agricultural employment fell by 1,700 jobs month over month, while private education and health services added 2,200 jobs during that time, the most of any sector. Health care and social assistance (1,300) gained the most jobs, while private education added 900 jobs.
Government increased by 2,100 jobs during that time.
Year-over-year, total non-farm employment increased by 12,700 jobs, a 0.7 percent jump. Agricultural employment increased by 600 jobs, 5.1 percent improvement, the department reported.
