Indio has been named a finalist in the All-America City competition.
In June, Indio officials will travel to Denver to represent the Coachella Valley city when the 10 All-America Cities are named, according to a statement on the city’s website.
“This is a tremendous honor for Indio and speaks to the strides we’ve made as a community in recent years,” Indio Mayor Glenn Miller said in the statement. “It’s also a testament to the quality and character of our residents, without which this award would not be possible. We’re looking forward to representing Indio this summer in Denver.”
The All-America City Awards are presented every year by the National Civic League. The awards – which can go to neighborhoods, towns, villages, cities, counties or regions – recognize communities whose citizens work together to solve problems, according to the statement.
Indio’s application highlighted several programs, including the partnership between the city’s teen center and its senior center and the city’s art beautification programs, according to the statement.
