E-commerce is creating a strong demand for large warehouse space throughout the United, States, and the Inland Empire is right in the middle of that trend.
Between 2010 and 2016, 13 industrial buildings of one million square feet or more – covering 15.4 million square feet – were built in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, according to data released Tuesday by CBRE Group Inc.
Only Philadelphia, with 16 such properties – 19.7 million square feet total – experienced more mega-warehouse development during that time, CBRE reported.
Dallas, Fort Worth, Atlanta, Chicago, Memphis, Columbus, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Phoenix made up the rest of the Top 10.
In all, 117 such facilities were built nationwide during that six-year period, covering 141.2 million square feet. That was 18 more than were built between 2003 and 2009, according to CBRE.
