Inland medical school recognizes 140 graduates

Inland medical school holds white coat ceremony

The California University of Science and Medicine has officially welcomed its class of 2027.

With family and friends looking on, the 130-member class underwent a traditional white coat ceremony on July 14, during which each student recited the Hippocratic Oath, according to a statement.

Each new medical student was recognized individually during the ceremony, which was held on the university’s Colton campus.

About 33 percent of those students are from the Inland Empire.

“The white coats received by the students represent membership in the medical community and the acceptance of the associated responsibilities [of working in medicine],” said Dr. Paul Lyons, the school’s president, and dean, in the statement. “The white coat, along with the Hippocratic Oath, is a commitment to the ethical practice of medicine and a commitment to one’s patients and community.”

Dr. Prem Reddy, the university’s founder and board chair, also participated in the white coat presentation.

Reddy is the founder and chief executive officer of Prime Healthcare Services in Ontario, a for-profit chain of 45 hospitals throughout 14 states. In 2015, the Prime Healthcare Foundation helped get CUSM started with a substantial donation, according to the statement.
