The Inland Empire recorded a 4.4 percent unemployment rate in May, up from a revised 4.1 percent the previous month, according to a report released today.
The two-county region added 7,400 non-agricultural jobs between April and May, and 16,600 jobs between May of 2022 and last month, the state Employment Development Department reported.
California’s unadjusted unemployment rate last month was 4.5 percent.
Year-over-year in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, private education and health services added 12,400 jobs, the most of any sector. All but a few of those were in health care and social assistance.
The government added 7,700 jobs, while three other sectors – professional and business services (3,400), other services (2,200), and construction (2,200), also added jobs.
Four Inland sectors posted job decline during the previous year: trade, transportation, and utilities (-5,800 ), transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-4,000), transportation and warehousing (-4,400), and wholesale trade (-2,500).
Retail added 700 jobs, while financial activities and mining logging both remained unchanged, according to the report.
