Some Inland Empire residents are reportedly leading the state in water use.
Residents in the driest parts of the two-county region are using an average of 252 gallons a day, nearly three times the average daily use in coastal communities in Northern California, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
That was the highest water use for any region in the state, according to the report, which cited data presented Tuesday to the State Water Board on per-person water used in California.
The lowest rate was 85 gallons a day, recorded in greater San Francisco.
Water board officials cautioned that it’s difficult to compare markets because of differing factors like average rainfall, temperature, population and residential lot size.
This is the first time the state has tracked individual water use. The data will help water suppliers determine whether they’re meeting their conservation goals.
