A job fair designed primarily to help out-of-work veterans is scheduled to be held Thursday at Ontario Convention Center.
The “Honor a Hero Hire a Vet Job and Resource Fair” will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with more than 130 employees expected to attend, said Don Froman, employment project manager with the California Employment Development Department.
This is the 38th year the annual job fair will be held in the Inland Empire and sixth time it will be held into Ontario. The development department is staging the event in partnership with the Inland Empire Veterans Employment Committee.
Despite its name, the job fair is open to anyone who is looking for work, Froman said.
“We hope it’s a good event,” Froman said. “We have all kinds of employers signed up, and we’re hoping to get at least as large a crowd as we got last year, which was around 800.”
Unemployment among veterans between 22 and 30 remains a major problem throughout California, well above the state’s 5.3 percent rate that was announced last week.
“It’s in double digits,” Froman said.
