A job fair will be held Wednesday in connection with the layoff of an estimated 730 warehouse workers in Ontario.
The workers, who were working at an undisclosed logistics operation, were associates of Adecco Staffing, a nationwide temporary job placement service, said Sarah Palmer, vice president of marketing with Adecco Group North America.
The job fair is scheduled to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Adecco Staffing’s Rancho Cucamonga office, 9227 Haven Ave., where the workers were based. As of Tuesday morning, about 200 people had said they planned to attend the event, which is open to the public, according to Palmer.
“It’s unusual to have that many people let go at once, but it can happen,” Palmer said. “They’re a longtime client of ours and their business needs changed. It’s part of the business. We just have to do our best for our associates and try to roll with it.”
Adecco’s goal is to place all of the workers, Palmer said.
“There are thousands of job openings all over the greater Los Angeles area,” Palmer said.
Final termination date is Aug. 17. The employees were told of the layoff in mid-June, several weeks before the state Economic Development Department filed a notice regarding the pending termination, Palmer said.
