Johnson named undersecretary at state department of corrections

Jason D. Johnson has been appointed undersecretary of operations at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

A Redlands resident, Johnson has been the department’s acting undersecretary of operations since last year, and has held several positions in that agency during the past 20 years, according to a statement on Gov., Gavin Newsom’s website.

Before joining the corrections and rehabilitation department, Johnson was a probation officer at San Bernardino County Probation Department from 2001 to 2006. He is a member of the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs’ Association, the Orange County Chief’s and Sheriff’s Association, and the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice.

Johnson earned a master’s degree from the University of Redlands, and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Cal State Fullerton.

His appointment requires confirmation by the state Senate, according to the statement.
