Jurupa Valley loses battle regarding power project

A Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge has ruled against Jurupa Valley in its bid to block a major power-line that Riverside and Southern California Edison want to build.

Judge Thomas McKnew ruled Friday that Riverside has met the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act regarding the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project, according to a report first published in The Press-Enterprise.

Last August, a judge dismissed Jurupa Valley’s claim that it should be the lead agency  on that project and be responsible for its environmental review.

Southern California Edison must now get approval from the state Public Utilities Commission for the design and portion of the project that it’s responsible for, according to the report.

McKnew is expected to issue a written decision within two weeks, at which point Jurupa Valley will have 60 days to appeal. The transmission lines are expected to be in use in about five years, according to the report.
