Kaiser Permanente volunteer to retire

Kaiser Permanente’s oldest volunteer in San Bernardino County is calling it quits.

Arnold Tordoff, 95, works in the in the Neurosurgery and Anesthesia Interventional Pain Clinic at Kaiser Permanente Fontana, according to statement.

He is scheduled to retire April 30, three months short of his 96th birthday.

The Fontana native and World War II veteran has logged more than 11,000 hours during his 24 years as a volunteer. Tordoff calls his time as a medical volunteer the best thing that has ever happened to him.

“One day we went to Fontana Medical Center for a doctors appointment,” said Tordoff, who worked for 44 years as a fireman with the Kaiser Steel Fire Department. “I saw the volunteers working and thought, ‘I could do that.’’’

Tordoff is one of nearly 400 volunteers in San Bernardino County being honored by Kaiser Permanente this month, according to the statement.
