Lamps Plus expands

Lamps Plus Inc. has expanded its warehouse-distribution operation in Redlands.

The company, one of the leading lighting retailers in the United States, has bought a 57,000-square-foot industrial building at 26509 Palmetto Ave., according to a statement released Monday.

The building is at 9425 California St., next door to a warehouse and retail outlet store that combined cover about 800,000 square feet.

Lamps Plus, which bought the building from Precision Pet Products for $7.1 million, plans to hire about 50 people to work in the new facility. The structure, which was built in 2006, will be used to store lighting, home decor and furniture.

The company needs the extra space so it can ship its products faster, said Dennis Swanson, the company’s chief executive officer, in the statement.

Based in Los Angeles, Lamps Plus operates more than three dozen stores in the western United States, as well as an e-commerce business and mobile site.

It opened its Redlands warehouse in 2007 and the adjacent outlet store two years later, according to the statement.
