The El Sobrante Landfill near Corona is getting larger, and that as some Inland residents up in arms.
Waste Management Inc. is building a new area that will accept more trash at the landfill, which is already one of the 10 largest waste facilities of its kind in the United States, according to a story first published in The Press-Enterprise.
Members of the El Sobrante Landfill Citizens Oversight Committee are concerned about the landfill accepting incinerator ash to cover garbage, increased truck traffic and the facility’s increased visibilty.
The landfill opened in 1996. Twelve years later, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved its expansion by nearly 470 acres, according to the report.
