California’s unemployment rate rose slightly to 5.8 percent in December compared with the previous month despite a substantial gain in jobs, according to data released Friday.
The state added 60,400 non-agricultural jobs during the last month of 2015, but the unemployment rate grew one-tenth of a percentage point during that time, the state Employment Development Department reported in its monthly jobs report.
California’s unemployment rate was seven percent during December 2014.
Overall, the state’s economy appears to be performing well despite some signs of a slowdown in the global economy.
Riverside and San Bernardino counties recorded unemployment rates of 6.1 percent and 5.8 percent in December, down 2.3 percent .9 percent year-over-year, according to the department.
