An unusual High Desert landmark is operating again.
The world’s largest thermometer, a 134-foot-tall structure next to Interstate 15 in Baker, was relit Thursday following a major renovation, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.
Local businessman Willis Herron built the thermometer to try to attract motorists to the city, where he owned several businesses. The structure fell into repair in recent years, and the Herron family restored it by installing 5,000 energy-saving light bulbs, according to the report.
