Lawsuit seeks to block apartment development

A homeowners group has sued the city of Murrieta in an attempt to block a 112-unit apartment complex.

Murrieta Community Values Organization filed a lawsuit in Riverside Superior Court last week that named the city and Golden Eagle Multi-Family Properties LLC in Irvine as defendants, according to a report first published in The Press-Enterprise.

The lawsuit maintains the city did not take into consideration environmental issues when it approved the apartment project.

Residents of The Preserve, a community next to the Golf Club of Rancho California, say they’re already overwhelmed by traffic, often by motorists who “cut through” to avoid heavily traveled Winchester Road, according to the report.

In January, the council voted 4-1 to approve the project, which will be developed on 7.5 acres at Murrieta Hot Springs Road and Via Princessa.

Golden Eagle officials say they made major changes to the project, including moving its entrance, in order to reduce traffic, according to the report.
