Local businesses to participate in major boat show

Two Inland boat retailers will be among the exhibitors at the 2014 Progressive Insurance Los Angeles Boat Show, scheduled to be held Feb. 6-9 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Essex Boats and Sun County Marine, both in Ontario, are signed up for the three-day event, which is being produced by the National Marine Manufacturers Association, according to a release.

Boating’s popularity is growing: more than 88 million U.S. residents participated in boating in 2012, a six percent increase compared with 2011, and sales of boats, engines, trailers and accessories in California were up 17.3 percent, to $367 million, according to the release.

Boating supports more than 25,000 jobs in California, and there are more than 80,000 recreational boats and 480 boat-related businesses in the state, according to the NMMA West.
