Patricia Lock Dawson has been named to the California Air Resources Board,
Lock Dawson, who has been Riverside’s mayor since 2020, was appointed recently by Gov. Gavin Newsom, according to a statement on the governor’s website.
The appointment must be confirmed by the Senate, and there is no compensation or party preference associated with the appointment.
Before being elected mayor, Lock Dawson was a board trustee with the Riverside Unified School District. She was also president and owner of a governmental consulting firm, and a wildlife biologist with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
The 16-member air resources board is responsible for protecting the public from air pollution, and it’s the leading state agency responsible for fighting climate change, according to the board’s website.
Board members meet once a month, and serve staggered six-year terms.
