Long named UCR public policy dean

Mark Long has been named dean of UC Riverside’s school of public policy.

A professor in the Evans School of Public Policy and Governance in Seattle and an adjunct professor of economics at the University of Washington, Long will be the public policy school’s second dean, according to a statement on the UC Riverside website.

Long is scheduled to begin work Jan. 1, 2023. He will succeed Anil Deolalikar, the public policy school’s founding dean, who will remain in office through the end of this year.

“Mark’s commitment to academic excellence coupled with his research on the impact of public policies on economic opportunity and social mobility are very much aligned with the mission of our School of Public Policy,” said Elizabeth Watkins, UC Riverside’s provost and executive vice chancellor, in the statement.

Long is former vice president of the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management in Washington, D.C., and he was elected to the Washington State Academy of Sciences in 2019, according to the statement.
