Michael Moore is retiring as Riverside’s fire chief.
Moore, who has led the department for 10 years, will step down in September, according to a statement on the city’s website.
During his time in office, Moore coordinated Riverside’s response to COVID-19, helping to bring the first vaccinations to the city. He also assisted in putting together Measure Z, the one-cent sales tax that voters approved in 2020 to raise money for public safety.
“My four decades in the fire service represent a dream come true in terms of public service,” Moore said in the statement. “I’ve been blessed to work with thousands of exemplary individuals who made it their life’s work to protect the public.”
Moore became Riverside’s 21st fire chief in August 2014. He also served as interim city manager for seven months in 2022-’23
