Lynn “Nay” Valbuena has been elected chairwoman of the San Manual Band of Mission Indians.
Valbuena, a longtime advocate for the tribe and Native America issues, began her term Tuesday, according to published reports.
Valbuena has a history with the tribe, having served as tribal chairwoman from 1994 to 1996 and vice chairwoman from 2008 to 20012.
She has also served as chairwoman of the Tribal Alliance of Sovereign Indian Nations since it was formed nearly 20 years ago. The alliance advocates for tribal rights at the local, state and federal level.
