Major retailer heading to Riverside

Riverside Plaza has landed a Nordstrom Rack.

The discount chain will occupy space on the mall’s ground floor previously occupied by Forever 21 and Harris/Gottschalks, according to a published report.

Nordstrom Rack will move in next spring. Vestar, the Phoenix-based developer that owns and manages Riverside Plaza, is negotiating with potential tenants for space on the mall’s second and third levels, according to the report.

The chain generally prices items at 30 to 70 percent below items at a regular Nordstrom store.

Nordstrom Rack is undergoing a major national expansion that is expected to add 100 stores during the next three years. There are Nordstrom Rack stores in Ontario, Upland, Chino and Temecula.

Riverside Plaza, the city’s oldest shopping center, is in the middle of a $12 million renovation that includes improvements to walkways, fresh landscaping and renovated parking lots.
