ZM Trucks, a maker of zero-emission commercial trucks, will open its first North American manufacturing plant in Fontana.
The company has leased a 210,000-square-foot building at 10271 Almond Ave., where it will produce zero-emission products, including electric commercial trucks, terminal tractors, and airport ground service equipment, according to a statement released Jan. 23.
The production facility is expected to start operations during the first half of this year. When it reaches full capacity, it Is expected to employ 200 people and produce 35,000 to 40,000 vehicles a year.
“Our new Fontana facility reflects ZO Motors’ commitment to the U.S. market and sustainable innovation,” said Joost de Vries, chief executive officer of ZO Motors, in the statement. “This expansion allows us to deliver zero-emission solutions that lower total cost of ownership and drive long-term value for our customers.”
San Bernardino County’s economic development department began working with ZM Trucks – a subsidiary of ZO Motors in Tokyo – in early 2024 to find an ideal location for its manufacturing operation, said Supervisor Curt Hagman.
“We applaud ZM Truck’s work with the logistics industry to advance the industry toward carbon neutrality,” Hagman said in the statement. “The county is proud to now be part of their success in producing zero-emission commercial vehicles in the United States.”
