Esri, the Redlands-based geographical information systems company, has released an interactive map that shows how the earth’s natural and human systems have changed over time.
Atlas for a Changing Planet is a story map that can be used to examine spatial information, data that can be used to adapt to warmer climates in the future, according to a statement released by Esri.
“Mitigating the effects of climate change is a global, geographic challenge” said Jack Dangermond, president of Esri, in the statement. “Understanding how the earth’s systems interact and transform is an essential first step in measuring the threat of climate change and making informed decisions to reduce it.”
Atlas for a Changing Planet studies five areas: understanding natural systems, mapping human systems, mapping ocean impacts, predicting the future and international cooperation, according to the statement.
Esri created the map for the United Nations’s 21st Conference of the Parties. During the annual meeting, world officials will discuss an international agreement intended to keep global warmings below two degrees Celsius, according to the statement.
