Actor-writer-comedian Cheech Marin has been named honorary chairman of the 2022 Latino Education & Advocacy Days LEAD Summit XI, scheduled to be held Sept. 30 at Cal State San Bernardino.
The summit, which is free and open to the public, brings together teachers, researchers and academics for a discussion of education issues that affect Latinos and how to help Latinos plan their future, according to a statement on the university’s website.
Marin, probably best known for his work in the comedy duo Cheech & Chong, donated his collection of Chicano art for the creation of the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art, Culture and Industry.
Better known as “The Cheech,” that facility opened in June. It is part of the Riverside Art Museum.
LEAD Summit XI will be held from 8 a.m. to about 4 p.m. at the university’s Santos Manuel Student Union North. Registration for LEAD XI is available at the LEAD Summit XI website
