Ontario International Airport is predicting a major drop in passenger traffic for the month of May.
Airport officials expect a year-over-year reduction of 62.4 percent during the fifth month of the year, based on flight schedules posted by carriers, according to a statement released by the Ontario International Airport Authority.
That will leave the airport with an average of 24 daily departures, and its passenger traffic 90 percent below normal on some days.
“We continue to work closely with the airlines and other airport partners as we navigate through these unprecedented operating conditions,” said Mark Thorpe, the airport authority’e chief executive officer, in the statement. “As bleak as May appears for the aviation industry, preliminary flight schedules for June and beyond show airlines planning to add back flights as more businesses reopen and Americans begin to resume traditional routines and activities.”
Flights to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, New York, Orlando and Taiwan are all scheduled to be suspended this month, according to the statement.
