Steve McKinster has been named Riverside’s fire chief.
A veteran of 29 years in fire service and 25 years with the Riverside Fire Department, McKinster is currently the department’s deputy fire chief, according to a statement on the city’s website.
He is scheduled to take over as chief Oct. 10.
McKinster replaces Chief Michael Moore, who is retiring after spending 10 years as head of the department.
“Steve McKinster is the right combination of leadership, management expertise, and professionalism to lead the department,” City Manager Mike Futrell said in the statement. “His commitment to Riverside and his understanding of this community’s needs set him apart as our department’s next chief.”
McKinster’s experience includes leadership positions in fire operations, prevention, training, and urban search and rescue, according to the statement.
