Palm Springs is moving from at-large to district city council elections, and it’s encouraging residents to get involved in the process.
The city will hold two public workshops dealing with mapping techniques so that residents can create and submit their own district map, according to a statement.
The first session is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 28 at the James O. Jessie Desert Highland Unity Center, 480 Tramview Road.
The second meeting, also scheduled to being at 6 p.m, will be held the following evening at Palm Springs Convention Center, 277 N. Avenida Caballeros, Mesquite B.
Sept. 17 is the deadline to submit a map. Proposals should be emailed to [email protected].
As are many California cities, Palm Springs is converting to council districts to better comply with the California Voting Rights Act. The city will hold more meetings this fall, with all sessions to be concluded by Dec. 31, according to the statement.
