Palm Springs is holding the latest in a series of meetings regarding its shift to district elections. The sessions, which will conclude at the end of next month, will refine the five proposed district maps before the city council, according to a statement on the city’s website
Community forums are scheduled to be held Monday at the Richards Center at Palm Springs High School, 2401 E. Baristo Road, and Nov. 5 at the James O. Jessie Desert Highland Unity Center, 480 W. Tramview Road. Both meetings are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
The council will also hold two meetings in the council chambers at city hall, 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, on Nov.15 and Nov. 29. Both are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Modifications to the final map will be made during the last meeting.
The sessions will also be available at www.palmspringsca.gov or Palm Springs Community Television Ch. 17.
Anyone with an interest in Palm Springs’ future – residents, business owners, property owners, people who work in the city – is encouraged to attend the meetings.
Like several California cities, Palm Springs is abandoning at-large elections to avoid running afoul of the California Voting Rights Act of 2001.
