Metrolink station to get upgrade

Metrolink restores/adds IE routes

Metrolink has brought back 24 routes and added two more, a move the transit agency is calling its most significant route restoration since the start of the pandemic.

Several of those changes are on Inland Empire routes: six buses added to the San Bernardino line, four to the Riverside line and two to the 91/Perris Valley line, according to a statement released Monday.

The 91/Perris Valley line, now has midday service to Los Angeles and a reverse morning trip to Riverside County. The San Bernardino line has later trains and Sunday service. Other changes involve the Orange and Ventura county lines and the Antelope Valley line.

All changes began Monday.

“Metrolink is the backbone of public transportation in Southern California as it literally links people from their homes to their workplaces and other destinations,” said Metrolink Board Chair Ara Najarian in the statement. “With soaring gas prices and excessive traffic congestion, it was important that we bring back more service now as people are returning to the office and traveling for leisure and more.”

In March 2020, the start of the pandemic, Metrolink reduced its schedule by about 30 percent following a 90 percent drop in ridership, according to the statement.
