Mills to head Palm Springs PD

Andrew Mills has been named Palm Springs’ chief of police.

Mills, who has been chief of the Santa Cruz Police Department since 2017, was selected following a nationwide search in which more than 50 applicants were considered.

“Chief Mills was clearly the top performer in the process,” City Manager Justin Clifton said in a statement. “I think he will be able to integrate with our team and community seamlessly. He brings a wealth of experience and leadership that, with help from the rest of our team, can take us to the next level.”

A graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., Mills began his law enforcement career in 1983 as a patrol officer with the San Diego Police Department.  He moved up to captain and commanding officer, where he was in charge of the department’s eastern and western divisions.

Mills is scheduled to begin as chief early next month.
