Montclair Lands Manufacturing Company

A San Fernando Valley company that manufactures advanced water purification systems for national and international clients is moving to Montclair.

Ampac USA expects to move its corporate headquarters from Canoga Park to a four-building complex at 5255 State St. by the end of this month, said Sammy A. Farag, the company’s chief executive officer.

The company, whose clients include the U.S. Navy, NATO and the United Nations, bought the 11,500-square-foot complex for an undisclosed sum after the building it leased in Canoga Park was sold unexpectedly.

“They sold it without telling us,” said Farag, who founded Ampac USA in 1993. “Right away I started looking for another building.”

About eight people will work at the Montclair facility when it opens, and that number could eventually expand to 20 employees, Farag said.

The complex is next to Central Avenue immediately south of Holt Boulevard. Besides being more than 4,000 square feet larger than its previous facility, the Montclair location will put the company closer to its suppliers in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

Over time, that could reduce its operating costs by approximately 20 percent, Farag said.

Ampac USA received no incentives from San Bernardino County or Montclair to relocate, but it does plan to work with the county on possible tax breaks for hiring local people, Farag said.

One county official praised the move.

“We are thrilled to have Ampac USA join the growing roster of companies [that are] choosing to locate here,” San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Chairman James Ramos said in a statement. “This county continues to offer the right mix of location, access and workforce that helps companies grow and thrive.”
