More Metrolink Service Planned

Metrolink will begin service along the 91 Freeway/Perris Valley Line June 6.

The new service, the first extension of any Metrolink operation since 1994, will bring the rail line to four additional Riverside County stations: Riverside-Hunter Park-UC Riverside, Moreno-Valley-March Field, Perris-Downtown and Perris-South, according to a statement by Metrolink and the Riverside County Transportation Commission.

The 24-mile extension of the 91 Freeway/Perris Valley line includes 15 at-grade crossings in Riverside County, safety measures include gates, flashing warning devices, raised center medians and pavement markings.

Pedestrian crosswalks were added at two railroad crossings and permanently eliminated at two others.

Perris Valley residents will now be able to use Metrolink to reach destinations throughout Southern California, said Daryl Busch, Perris mayor and vice chairman of the Metrolink  board.

“Metrolink and [the transportation commission] have worked incredibly hard to make this concept a reality,” Busch said in the statement.

Metrolink is a regional commuter rail service that began operating in 1993. It operates a 512-mile network along seven routes through six counties, according to the statement.
