Outdoor water use in San Bernardino County needs to be cut in half, and about 50 percent of the water used in irrigation needs to be cut back during the next nine months, according to local water officials.
Large lawns should not be allowed in California given number of droughts the state routinely experiences, said Douglas Headrick, general manager of the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.
Headrick, who spoke at a news conference Monday at the district’s headquarters, said the average residential customer in the district needs to cut their water use by 33 percent.
In May, the State Water Resources Control Board announced emergency water conservation requirements for water providers. Those requirements ranged from an eight to a 36 percent cut in monthly deliveries, depending on the community.
In the Inland Empire, water providers must cut their deliveries by 24 to 36 percent every month, the report stated.
