Moreno Valley grant program will help small businesses

Moreno Valley has developed a grant program that will help small businesses in the city that have been hurt by COVID-19.

The Forward MoVal Small Business Grant program will provide 45 one-time grants of $7,500 to create or keep jobs for low and moderate-income workers, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The money will come from the Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus program funding, which is made available through the CARES Act, one of the Trump Administration’s mechanisms for helping small businesses.

“Our staff has been working hard since the start of the crisis to be of help to local business owners and employees, connecting them with available resources to help them weather this storm,” Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez said in the statement. “These grants aren’t huge, but they could be just enough for a business to survive.”

Moreno Valley wanted a program that would help small businesses which did not receive funding through other federal programs, according to the statement.
